Under this much oak canopy, gutters are a twice-a-year job, not an annual one.
A clogged gutter does not announce itself. It backs up behind the fascia, saturates the sheathing, and shows up two years later as rot at the roof edge or a wet basement corner. On a wooded Main Line lot the debris load is heavy enough that the once-a-year schedule most homeowners assume is not sufficient.
We clear the trough, flush the downspouts, check that water is exiting where it is supposed to, and tell you what we found: separated seams, loose hangers, missing splash blocks, or a downspout dumping directly against the foundation.
Why the debris load here is unusually high
The dominant canopy across Radnor, Tredyffrin, Easttown, and Lower Merion townships is mature oak, tulip poplar, maple, and sycamore. Oak drops twice, shedding catkins and pollen in late spring, then leaves late in the fall, often after the first freeze. Tulip poplar sheds constantly through the summer. Sycamore sheds bark.
That means the standard single fall cleaning misses an entire spring load that has been sitting in the trough all summer composting into the sludge that actually blocks a downspout outlet.
Downspouts are where the real failures happen. A trough can look clear from the ground while the elbow at the bottom is completely packed. Flushing every downspout to daylight is the part of this job that matters most, and it is the part most often skipped.

How we do it
Full-run inspection
Drone pass along every run to see the actual debris level and spot separated seams, pulled hangers, and standing water before anyone touches anything.
Debris removal
Troughs cleared of leaves, catkins, shingle grit, and compacted sludge. Debris is bagged and taken off site, not blown into your beds.
Downspout flush
Every downspout flushed until water runs to daylight. Blocked elbows are cleared. If a downspout ties into an underground drain we confirm it is actually discharging.
Condition report
You get photos of what we found and a plain list of anything that needs a gutter contractor. We do not quote repairs we do not perform.

Gutter Cleaning questions
How often should gutters be cleaned in this area?
Twice a year for most homes with mature trees within about 30 feet: once in late spring after the oak drop, once in late fall after leaf drop is finished. Homes on open lots with no overhanging canopy can usually run on an annual schedule.
I have gutter guards. Do I still need this?
Yes, less often. Guards keep whole leaves out but let pollen, catkins, shingle grit, and fine debris through, and that fine material is what packs a downspout elbow. Guards typically move a home from twice a year to once a year rather than eliminating the job.
Do you clean the outside of the gutters too?
That is a separate service called gutter brightening. It removes the black vertical streaking on the face of the gutter, which is oxidation and road film rather than dirt. We usually bundle it with a house wash. Ask for it on the quote.
Will you get on my roof?
We avoid it. The inspection is done by drone and the clearing is done from the gutter line. On a slate or cedar roof we will not walk the surface at all.
What if you find damage?
You get photos and a written note of exactly what and where. We do not perform gutter repair or replacement, so there is no incentive for us to find problems that are not there.
